In the fictitious survival competition Squid Game, 456 impoverished people willingly enter a closed system to participate in a number of kid-friendly games with lethal outcomes. After being fully informed that elimination in the game results in death, each participant, who has accrued enormous debt in the real world, consents to play. Each round's survivors compete until one person wins a substantial cash prize that is paid for by the deaths of every other competitor. An organised authority oversees the system, ensuring that all outcomes are solely based on in-game performance, that all players have the same starting conditions (food, shelter, and rules), and that all players are subject to the same regulations.
